Sloan's Story
Life
Life has been good to me since I moved back to California from Spain in 2004. All is stable on various fronts, which is a blessing. I think often of the past chapters in my life, all of which served a unique purpose and taught me various lessons which I am able to apply in the present and subsequently benefit from. Marin County was a great place to grow up, and with time and reflection, I've come to appreciate my roots. Growing up had its array of challenges, setbacks, and degrees of unfairness, but it speaks to the adage that if you fall down six times, stand up seven.
School
Looking back, my transition to San Rafael High School in '86 was a pivotal move that allowed me to salvage some degree of happiness in the twilight of my teenage years. I admit I probably wore more har...Expand for more
dship on my face from the preceding years at Sir Francis Drake High School than what was necessary and healthy, and I continue to remember and thank those who were there for me to help me phase out of that depressed mindset and accelerate the healing process. If you weren't appreciated then, please know that you are now. You gave me a warm place to hang my hat for two years of my life, and I am eternally grateful. Wrestling was the most difficult thing I ever did from a physical conditioning standpoint, but as a form of spiritual and mental therapy, it worked wonders. Not much is left of my headgear, which is sitting in a plastic bag in about 50 pieces. Still fit and trim, able to wrestle in the 165-lb weight class if I had to. ;)
